To stare at a clock for hours, what a meaningless thing
a wasteful act you submit your complete attention
it’s as quiet as ever
alone in your own mind counting clicks and letting minutes pass.

To walk an immense distance, an avoidable chore
for the purity of the night sky it holds your curiosity
the walk is breathless
you crave a visit to the hills in hopes of finding something true.

To sit for a day to honor feeling accomplished, pity a lost day
creating bad faith to avoid humbling tasks in front of you
wandering fulfillment
eventually realization crashes but your momentum diminishes.

To take the bus until its final stop, for a reason or out of boredom
the bus driver greets you aboard with a smile and your attached
you have a seat
the bus driver yells last stop with a horrid frown and you weep walking home.

To call the wind from a mountain top, anger has turned into effort
as you climb and trail those ahead the pacing is evident
trek towards the end
falling back you wait awhile among the tall trees that let you take a break.

In your epiphany, time becomes clear and no longer a waste.
